At the INNN 2024 conference, Sonia Quillet, Director of Customer Experience and Innovation at MACIF, and Virgile Delporte, co-founder and CEO of Testamento, reviewed their collaboration between a large corporation and a start-up. Launched in 2018 as part of the first season of French Assurtech, this partnership led to the development of the Beneficiary solution, designed to simplify and enhance the management of beneficiary clauses for MACIF’s 1.3 million clients. The collaboration is based on a shared vision and a cooperative approach to addressing the technical and human challenges associated with wealth management in the insurance sector.

A technological challenge serving policyholders

From the outset, MACIF and Testamento shared a common goal: to simplify complex processes and make them accessible. Working hand-in-hand, the teams quickly developed Beneficiary, a solution that allows policyholders to designate their beneficiaries in just a few clicks. Initially offering a B2C service, Testamento transformed into a SaaS software provider for insurers, meeting their operational needs. This customized platform, co-developed and used by MACIF, now enables the clear and legally reliable designation of beneficiaries, adapting to evolving family dynamics and regulatory requirements.

A human and regulatory challenge

Beyond the technological aspect, this project addresses crucial human concerns. MACIF emphasizes the importance of ensuring that policyholders’ wishes are respected, especially in a context where family situations are becoming increasingly diverse and complex. With Testamento, policyholders can easily update their beneficiary clauses, including selecting associations as beneficiaries – a major step forward in line with the evolving expectations of customers.

At the same time, the solution alleviates a real “pain point” for insurance advisors: managing the beneficiary clause, which is often a difficult subject to broach with clients. This intuitive platform streamlines the management of this sensitive issue, assuring members that their wishes will be respected without ambiguity.

A relashionship of trust and a shared vision

The story of this partnership is built on mutual trust, as both parties explain. Since 2018, MACIF has invested in this innovative project, even taking a stake in Testamento. This financial and strategic commitment demonstrates the strength of their shared vision and their desire to make the collaboration long-lasting. The shared values, focused on operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and employee experience, are the foundation of this successful partnership.

An exemplary co-creation for the sector

Rather than simply outsourcing the project, the MACIF and Testamento teams worked together at every stage to ensure that Beneficiary met the exact needs of end users. This collaborative model enabled the design of an innovative solution that not only addresses current needs but also anticipates future challenges in the insurance industry.

This partnership marked a decisive step forward in life insurance innovation and was celebrated at the 2024 French Assurtech Trophy, an award recognizing pioneering initiatives between start-ups and large corporations in the sector. The MACIF-Testamento collaboration serves as an example of how trust, shared vision, and co-creation can transform ideas into concrete solutions for the future of insurance.

The entire Testamento team thanks MACIF for their continued trust and for this long-lasting partnership.
